The Marvin Gillery Scholarship
Scholarship History and Eligibility
History: The Marvin Gillery Scholarship was titled after its name sake, a dedicated student, fraternity brother, business leader, husband and father who believed in giving in every way to all those around him. This scholarship carries on his legacy of giving and support, especially to those who endeavor to do the same.
Purpose: The MARVIN GILLERY Die Hard Foundation Scholarship was created to assist an individual(s)
with the opportunity to develop professionally, civically and socially within Western Michigan
University. The MG Scholarship is a (1) one time award, non-renewable and presented annually.
Award Amount: $1,000 (One Thousand Dollars) during the calendar year 2024
Submission Period: October 1st, 2024 through December 31st, 2024
Award Date: January 2025
Eligibility: Students who wish to apply for the Annual Marvin Gillery Scholarship will need to satisfy the following requirements:
1. Must be a United States citizen
2. Must be currently enrolled at Western Michigan University with a minimum of 12 credit hours completed
3. Must demonstrate financial need by providing current FAFSA and/or Financial Ask Statement
4. Submit a copy of your Official WMU Transcript ( College of Engineering preferred. All fields of study are encouraged to apply. )
5. Submit a photo ( personal head-shot )
6. Submit a resume with educational / work history and verifiable volunteer experience
7. Must have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 ( on a 4.0 scale )
8. Submit three ( 3 ) letters of recommendation referring to the applicants character from the following:
a. WMU Faculty
b. Community Professional
c. Personal Reference
9. Submit a completed application accompanied by a 500-600 word written essay or a 3-5 minute video submission that describes "A challenging life experience(s) that the applicant was able to overcome and demonstrates how this produced positive growth in their life and possibly in the lives of others” or “A subject that is vitally important and urgent to the applicant and explains why along with their desired outcome.”
10. Must be willing to participate in a final interview(s) process and/or provide additional information ( if requested )
